unusual crochet::

in my previous post i was trying to research multiple fields of crochet technique. i looked at different international artists who are established in their craft and produce series of works which are equivalently impressive as works of painting or sculpture. one might think that such traditional craft which has come to life as a necessity to produce cardigans and different sort of textiles used in every day life wouldn’t summon big attention alas being accounted as a competitive medium in arts and, yet, it has. crochet technique has obtained a safe spot in creative expression field and keeps bringing out interesting artists and their fascinating labour.

the idea of dolls has existed from prehistoric times. their meaning might have changed through the time but it has maintained its concept of being hand-made. here we can see set of dolls/mascots made in present day and strangely so, some of them are not even for children to play with but purely collectible items to please adult eyes.
crochet is also very popular in fashion and is used to create almost anything person can possibly wear. i don’t want to research clothes designs which are made in this technique because that would be the most common media, instead i would like to look for more unconventional approach to this craft. i found these interesting accessories elements which are made using crochet::

to be honest i haven’t seen anyone wearing such bold jewellery but it does come across as fashion element of a strong statement. wish people would be more inventive and daring to shake up easy flowing society with something like this.

what i have learnt is that crochet can be very diverse craft and can be used to create most extraordinary items. the phantasy is the limit to what can be made out of thread using a stick. also there is an evidence that this craft is being practiced up till today and has been evolving into new forms of use. this is also one of the few things what people make with their own hands apart from cooking and tying one’s shoe laces. my point is that today technologies and machines produce almost everything people utilise within their existence and hand-made-things become less common in developed parts of the world. it would be shame that people will forget this sort of thing just because we are used to modern lifestyle and there is no need for it. i think usage of craft challenges people intelligence to create something in need and shouldn’t be forgotten. still there is a question how important is crochet and if it has some irreplaceable values which cant be replayed by machines or mass production. one is for sure – things which are hand made are original and of one kind in the world value attached to them. they obtain sort of the soul from the maker and shows the primitivism side of the human kind in some way which is cool.
